Trident FEA provides complete finite
element analysis (FEA) software to create optimized
ship designs. Any type of ship structure can be modelled
including container ships, bulk carries, multi-hull
vessels and smaller boats. The system includes an
integrated pre/post-processor and solver, powerful
analysis capabilities, an extensive element library,
and links to other industry-standard FEA systems.
Designed for Ship Structures
Trident FEA has been designed to solve the specific
technical challenges of ship structures. Some of the
specialized features include importing a weight curve
to quickly and easily distribute weight over the length
of the ship. Trident FEA’s element library includes
a complete set of standard elements, plus ship-specific
elements such as stiffened-quad shells and composite
elements. As well, ships can be balanced on a wave
or in stillwater and the resulting shear and bending
moment diagrams can be displayed graphically. When
doing a natural frequency or dynamic analysis, the
water surrounding the ship can also be taken into
account. Hydrodynamic load determination and fatigue
analysis capabilities are also available.
Methodology
Trident FEA allows the naval architect and structural
engineer to rapidly create and refine 3D ship models.
Existing finite element models can be imported into
Trident FEA using existing data from Maestro, Nastran,
Ansys, AutoCAD or various other systems. A large element
library and automated meshing tools make it easy to
prepare structural models for finite element analysis.
When the finite element model is complete, the user
can perform the finite element analysis and view the
results. Select from a full compliment of analysis
options, including linear and non-linear, static and
dynamic, natural frequency, buckling, thermal stress,
heat transfer and fatigue. Once the analysis is complete
contour plots, deformation plots or animations can
display the results.
