Landmines
Martec Limited has developed considerable expertise in modeling the effects of landmines on people and equipment.
Underwater Explosions
Martec Limited has considerable expertise in modeling the response of vessels to underwater explosions.
Urban Explosions
Martec Limited has extensive experience in analysing the interactions between blasts and structures, and also the channelling of blast energy in semi-constrained environments.
Vulnerability and Threat Assessment
In recent years, there has been an increased awareness of the vulnerability of civilian assets to deliberate acts of sabotage.

Blast Effect Analysis

Martec’s blast effect analysis involves the use of physically accurate virtual models of an explosive event – explosions, combustion and shock waves - and of the corresponding structural response of a target including buildings, bridges, ships, equipment or personnel. To develop these virtual models, we use software that has been developed in-house. Martec’s explosive effects Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis software, Chinook, in conjunction with Martec’s Trident FEA or Livermore’s LS-DYNA®, provides advanced blast and structural impact analysis. With these advanced tools, we are able to accurately model threat scenarios, analyze structural vulnerability, and recommend effective mitigation strategies, helping our military and industrial clients reduce risk.

With nearly 50 years of combined experience in the areas of CFD and Finite Element-based structural analysis, notably for problems involving transient, compressible and chemically reacting flows, and fluid-structure interaction, Martec is a recognized leader in research in blast and structural impact analysis. Specific projects we have contributed to include:

  • Explosive modeling and target response
  • Industrial hazard assessment
  • Terrorist threat assessment
  • Vulnerability analysis
  • Blast resistant design
  • Military force protection studies
  • Ballistic analysis
  • Forensic analysis
  • Explosion research
  • Experimental facility design
