First Air ATR42-300/320 Seat cushion replacement

For aesthetic and marketing reasons First Air intended to replace the seat cover material used on the 46 seats Aerospatiale ATR42-300 and ATR42-320 aircraft with the same fabric as used on all other First Air aircraft.

Martec Limited was contracted to prepare the STC application package, which included a compliance plan, flammability test plan, instructions for continued airworthiness, and review of material test reports. The compliance matrix for the STC was derived from FAR 25 requirements, as called for by the ATR42-300 and 320 aircraft certification basis. The new seat cushions required flammability testing in order to meet the FAR 25 requirements from the basis of certification. Martec managed the project and the proposed modification was approved by Transport Canada, which issued the STC to First Air.
